After starting the season 21-15 and sitting 4th in the East, Jamahl Mosley’s Orlando Magic has hit a rough patch, dropping to 23-22 thanks to a wave of injuries to starters and key rotation players.
They’ve managed just one win in their last 7 games and have slid down to 8th in the Eastern Conference. The losses haven’t just been frequent—they’ve been ugly, with an average margin of 16.7 points, including blowouts by 27 and 29.
Paolo Banchero is back, but after missing 3 months, it’s fair to give him some time to get back to his best. Franz Wagner’s absence has also been huge—he’s missed the last 20 games, and before his early-December injury, he was playing at an All-Star level.
The good news? He was upgraded to questionable in the past 24 hours, so a return could be right around the corner. That said, the Trail Blazers aren’t exactly reliable on the road. It’s a bit of a risky call, but I’d back the Magic to pull this one off, especially if Wagner suits up.
Betting Tip:
The Atlanta Hawks are the definition of inconsistency in the NBA. This is a team that’s managed two road wins against the defending champs, the Celtics, beat the #1 Eastern team, the Cavaliers in back-to-back games, and took down the Bucks, Lakers, and Knicks (twice).
But then, somehow, they’ve also lost back-to-back games against the league-worst Wizards—and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
On the flip side, the Raptors are absolute road warriors—but in the worst way possible. With just 1 win to go along with 19 losses away from home, they hold the league’s worst road record. So yeah, I’m sticking with the Hawks here. Don’t let me down, Trae Young!
Betting Tips:
Jimmy Butler’s future with the Miami Heat has dominated the news lately, and it’s turned into a massive distraction for the team. After serving a 7-game suspension for “multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team,”
Butler is now facing a fresh 2-game suspension for missing a team flight. Clearly, he’s doing everything he can to force a trade, and it’s taking a toll on the Heat. They’re sitting 9th in the Eastern Conference with just 4 wins in their last 10 games—and only 1 in their last 5.
Their latest loss came against the Trail Blazers, where DeAndre Ayton dropped 22 points and grabbed 15 boards. If Ayton can dominate like that, you have to wonder what Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to do to them.
Tyler Herro is expected back despite dealing with groin soreness after missing the loss to Portland. But let’s be real—I don’t think his return is enough to save Miami from what awaits them in Milwaukee. My bet of the day is for them to win by over 7.5 points, and BetKing has the best odds for these bets.
Betting Tips:
The Mavericks have had 4 days to rest, while the Thunder are coming off a back-to-back, but I’m still riding with OKC here. The Mavericks have been struggling lately, largely because of Luka Dončić’s injury.
They’ve dropped 7 of their last 10 games, and things aren’t looking great in Dallas. However, I must point out that one of their three wins in this stretch was actually against this same Thunder team on Sunday. Now, let’s be fair—the Thunder didn’t have Shai Gilgeous-Alexander that night, but the Mavs were missing Luka too. Ojoro cancel ojoro, right?
Speaking of Shai, he’s expected to play tonight, and that’s where things get dangerous. The MVP front-runner is leading the league in scoring with 32 PPG and is coming off a monster performance—dropping a career-high 54 points in just 37 minutes against the Jazz last night.
You know he’ll be fired up to show the Mavs that their win over the weekend was just a fluke. My extra tip for the online betting community? Take the over on his points as he’ll look to build on a career night.
Betting Tips:
This is my pick for game of the day—it’s a clash between two red-hot NBA teams. The Nuggets have won 8 of their last 10 and climbed to 4th in the Western Conference standings. But here’s the thing: they’ve already dropped 8 home games just midway into this season, which is more than they have in each of the last two seasons.
So, that usual home-court advantage might not mean as much. That said, they’ve got Nikola Jokić, the 3-time MVP.
The Serbian superstar is more often than not the best player when he steps foot on a basketball court and the Kings sure have their work cut out for them. He has racked up a triple-double in his last 4 games and is practically unguardable on offense.
The Kings, meanwhile, are thriving after parting ways with Head Coach Mike Brown. They’ve won 9 of their last 10, with Domantas Sabonis leading the charge. Sabonis, a double-double machine, gives the Kings plenty of firepower in the paint and I can’t wait to see the battle with Jokić.
The lines heavily favour the Nuggets, and for good reason—the Kings are coming off a Wednesday night game, and the altitude in Denver can be brutal. I’m leaning toward Denver to take this one, but I also expect a high-scoring affair since both teams love to light up the scoreboard.
Betting Tips:
With both teams having identical 4-6 records over their last 10 games and sub .500 for the season, this matchup feels like a toss-up. The Warriors have lost two in a row with Draymond Green sidelined with an injury.
At this point, they’re slowly coming to terms with the fact that a championship run might not be in the cards this season. Even Steph Curry has hinted he’s not in favor of making a trade that sacrifices the team’s future just to improve now.
He knows that he may be on his last legs and the future of the team takes priority rather than additional glory this season. Gotta respect the selflessness—noble guy, Steph.
As for the Bulls, they might actually enjoy this trip since they’ve been slightly better on the road than at home. They’re 10th in the East and believe they could make the play-in.
That said, their last win—which ended a 5-game losing streak—came against a Clippers team that was both depleted and tired. Honestly, I’m not sure I can trust them to pull off another W here.
Betting Tips:
Permission to rant? Thanks! The NBA has been pretty careless with this fixture the last two seasons. These are the two most successful teams in the league, and their rivalry is arguably the biggest in the history of basketball. So, it’s frustrating when one team is forced to play on a back-to-back (same as last year), leaving them far from fresh. Kinda kills the intensity, doesn’t it? Okay, rant over.
The Celtics are coming off a win against the Clippers, but honestly, it felt more like a loss. The Clippers were without six key players, including James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, Ivica Zubac, and Norman Powell. Still, they pushed the defending champs to the brink, erasing a 6-point deficit in the final minute of regulation to force overtime before falling just short.
The good news for the Celtics—who boast the league’s best road record—is they’ve won 3 of their last 4 games at the Lakers’ house and 5 of the last 7 overall. Better yet, Al Horford, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porziņģis, who all sat out the Clippers game, are expected back.
Big boost. But don’t expect the Lakers to back down easily—they’ve got this guy named LeBron James. You might’ve heard of him? 6’9’’, big beard, plenty of tattoos.
Decent at basketball. He may be far from what he once was, but as we saw at the Olympics, he can turn it up for the big games if needed and it doesn’t get any bigger than Lakers vs. Celtics.
Betting Tips:
I just gave the Clippers some credit for their gutsy loss, and honestly, they earned it. Now they’re up against the Wizards, who are the worst team in the league.
So, a win should be a no-brainer, right? Well, not so fast. A lot depends on whether those six missing players from last night suit up. If they do, this should be a walk in the park for the Clippers.
When these teams met earlier this season, the Clippers blew them out by 25 points, with James Harden dropping 43. But if those guys are still out, things could get a little dicey for Ty Lue’s squad.
The Clippers’ schedule has been rough—7 games in 11 days is no joke. They won the first three but have dropped the last two as the fatigue is clearly catching up.
Even so, I’ll still back them to get the job done against the Wizards. Washington has won just six games all season and is currently riding an ugly 11-game losing streak. If the Clippers can’t win this one, then… yikes.
