Weekend Betting Tips: El Clasico #4, Liverpool vs. Arsenal + More

by Chike Nwoye

9 May 2025

This weekend’s fixtures are loaded with drama: Alexander Isak will aim to shoot Newcastle past Chelsea and into the Champions League mix, while Arsenal face a daunting trip to Anfield against newly crowned champions Liverpool, despite still smarting from Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to PSG.

Over in other European leagues, Dortmund, Juventus, and Lyon all hit the road needing big results to keep their UCL hopes alive. And of course, the headline act — another El Clasico with major title implications. For those looking for a free bet code for today,  we have just that, plus a chance to turn your daily 2k into ₦2.7m.

Southampton vs. Manchester City

KDB.jpg

This one pretty much picks itself—Manchester City are clear favourites. Since the 2004/05 season, City have only lost 3 of 25 league games against Southampton, winning 17 and drawing 5, although all three losses happened at St. Mary’s.

On top of that, City are ruthless against teams sitting rock bottom at the start of the matchday—across their last 29 matches against bottom-placed sides, they’ve won 24 and drawn 5. They’ve won 12 straight of such games by an aggregate scoreline of 44-1. Their last loss in that scenario? West Brom, way back in December 2008.

Even if Pep rests a few stars with the FA Cup final coming up, City should still have more than enough to handle a Southampton team that’s already lost 28 times this season—just one short of the Premier League’s all-time record.

Betting Tips:

Wolves vs. Brighton & Hove Albion

Wolves’ impressive 6-game winning streak ended last weekend when they visited Man City. They were never really in serious relegation danger thanks to the poor form of Ipswich, Leicester City, and Southampton, but they were lingering a bit too close for comfort. Grabbing 18 points on the bounce pushed them up to 13th, leapfrogging the likes of Man United, Spurs, and Everton.

Their matches usually deliver goals—and that might be where the smart money is in this clash with Brighton. Wolves have let in 62 goals this season (only the bottom three have done worse), though they’ve also scored 51—a club record in the Premier League and the second-highest among teams in the bottom half.

That said, there’s a slight concern. Between 1991 and 2021, Wolves only lost once at home to Brighton (W3, D7), but the Seagulls have now won on their last three trips to Molineux. In fact, Brighton haven’t lost in their last six against Wolves, winning four and scoring 18 goals along the way.

Betting Tips:

Bournemouth vs. Aston Villa

Ollie Watkins.jpg

There’s a lot riding on this weekend’s clash between these two sides. Aston Villa, just three points off the top five, will be fired up to keep their good run going, having won seven of their last nine league games. With Chelsea and Newcastle facing off too, this is a huge chance for Unai Emery’s men to tighten their grip on a Champions League spot.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, pulled off a statement comeback against Arsenal last weekend, and they’ll definitely want to build on that. While a top-four finish is out of reach this season, a Europa or Conference League spot is still on the table.

After a strong start to the season, injuries dragged them down, and before that Arsenal win, they’d only managed 3 wins in 12 games across all competitions (D4, L5). But now, they’ve got a shot at back-to-back league wins for the first time since January.

Still, I’m leaning toward Villa—they’ve got the form, the momentum, and are unbeaten in their last four against Bournemouth. Plus, their key players are firing.

Betting Tips:

Atletico Madrid vs. Real Sociedad

Antoine Griezmann applauding Atletico Madrid fans

With four games left, Atletico Madrid pretty much have their Champions League ticket locked in, holding a comfortable 9-point cushion over 5th-place Villarreal. Still, after a frustrating 0-0 draw against relegation-threatened Alaves last weekend, they’ll be keen to bounce back and end the season strong.

11TH-placed Real Sociedad also played out a goalless draw last weekend—this time against Athletic Bilbao—and with just one win in their last six across all competitions, they come into this one as clear underdogs.

Atletico haven’t lost to Sociedad in the league since 2019, going unbeaten in 10 games (W6, D4), and at home, they’ve been dominant—no losses in their last 11 against Sociedad at the Wanda Metropolitano (W9, D2) since 2013. The fact that Simeone’s men have only lost once at home all season, and it’s hard to see anything but a win for Atletico here. You can also count on Sociedad old boy, Antoine Griezmann to be especially motivated for this one.

Betting Tips:

Lazio vs. Juventus

Luiz.jpg

With just a single point separating 4th-place Juventus from 7th-place Bologna, this one’s a high-stakes showdown for a Champions League spot, especially with the re-hot AS Roma breathing down their necks.

Historically, Juve have dominated this fixture with 87 Serie A wins over Lazio, but the tide’s been turning lately as Lazio have won the last two at home against the Old Lady, which definitely adds some extra heat.

Sure, Juventus won the reverse fixture in October, but let’s not forget Lazio played most of that game a man down after Alessio Romagnoli was sent off in the 24th minute, and Juve’s winner came via a Mario Gila own goal in the 85th minute. Lazio have drawn five straight home games in the league, and that trend might continue. I’m backing the home side to avoid defeat in what feels like it’ll be a tight, low-scoring affair.

Betting Tips:

Monaco vs. Lyon

LACAZETTE.jpg

With just 4 points separating 3rd-place Monaco from 7th-place Lyon, this clash could play a pivotal role in the Champions League race.

Monaco come into it in solid form, having lost just once in their last 9 league outings (W5 D3), while Lyon have stumbled recently, dropping 2 of their last 3. The numbers further favour the home side — Monaco are one of just two Ligue 1 teams unbeaten at home in 2025, along with Strasbourg.

When these two met in August, Monaco won 2-0 thanks to goals from Eliesse Ben Seghir and Lamine Camara. With form and history on their side, Monaco look well-placed to take a big step toward securing European football next season.

Betting Tips:

Newcastle vs. Chelsea

Chelsea, the most decorated club in London, have hit a sweet patch lately—booking a spot in the Conference League final and tightening their grip on a Champions League place. The highlight of this run was last weekend’s standout 3-1 win over newly crowned champions Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, with Cole Palmer ending his goal drought after months without scoring.

Newcastle aren’t slacking either, winning 7 of their last 9 games in all competitions. This one’s shaping up to be the weekend’s fiercest battle, with a UCL spot up for grabs.

That said, Newcastle might just edge it. They’ve beaten Chelsea 7 times in their last 11 Premier League clashes at St. James’ Park (D1, L3), and earlier this season, they knocked the Blues out of the EFL Cup with a 2-0 win on their way to lifting the trophy. Looking at recent league form, only Liverpool (46) have picked up more points in the last 20 games than Newcastle (43 – W14, D1, L5), showing just how well Eddie Howe’s side have been playing.

With more rest under their belt and Chelsea coming off a European tie on Thursday, I’m leaning toward the home team, and my bet of the day is top scorer Alexander Isak (23 goals) getting on the scoresheet.

Betting Tips:

Liverpool vs. Arsenal

RUDIGER copy.jpg

After the heartbreak of missing out on a Champions League final, Arsenal now head to Anfield where they’ll have to give a guard of honour to newly crowned champions Liverpool. That alone will sting more than most of us can imagine.

But there’s no time for sentiment. The Gunners have teams breathing down their necks in the race for a top-five finish, and a loss here could seriously derail their Champions League hopes—especially with Newcastle up next. History isn’t exactly on their side either; Arsenal haven’t won at Anfield since September 2012, with Liverpool winning 7 and drawing 7 of the 14 meetings since then.

With all the star power likely to be on display, one of my betting tips for today is for both Mo Salah and Bukayo Saka to find the net in what should be a heated battle and as always, we have the best odds for that on BetKing.

Betting Tips:

Barcelona vs. Real Madrid

RUDIGER.jpg

Barcelona were part of one of the wildest Champions League fixtures in recent memory this week—though it ended in heartbreak. Another 3-3 thriller with Inter pushed the match into extra time, only for Davide Frattesi to snatch the winner. Now, it’s back to LaLiga, where they’ll be chasing a fourth win over Real Madrid this season alone. That’s something they’ve only done once in their history—under Pep Guardiola between 2008 and 2010 when they won five straight over their bitter rivals.

Even more impressive, Barça’s three wins over Madrid this season have come with a +12 goal difference, showing just how dominant they’ve been. Young star Lamine Yamal even said they’re not worried about Madrid because they can “outscore them at will.” That kind of talk will surely fire up the Galacticos, so expect some extra spice—and likely a flurry of cards—with tempers flaring.

While a Barça win looks like the safer pick, a Real Madrid win would throw the title race wide open and make things interesting. Either way, the one thing you can bank on is goals—El Clasico hasn’t been short on those this season.

Betting Tips:

Leverkusen vs. Borussia Dortmund

Last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Freiburg officially handed the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich, with Bayer Leverkusen settling for second place and Harry Kane finally lifting his first career silverware. With a 12-point cushion over 3rd-placed Frankfurt and just two games left, Leverkusen have little to play for — but they’ll want to finish strong.

They face a Borussia Dortmund side they’ve only beaten once in their last five meetings, though that win came in the reverse fixture. A league double over Dortmund would be Leverkusen’s first since 2006/07.

Motivation will be higher on the Dortmund side, though. Sitting just one point behind 4th-place Freiburg, they’re locked in a tight Champions League race. The Black and Yellows are unbeaten in six Bundesliga matches (W5 D1) and should be up for the fight. With Leverkusen (68 goals) and Dortmund (64) boasting the second and third-best attacks in the league, expect a thrilling, high-scoring encounter.

Betting Tips:

Torino vs. Inter

Lautaro Martinez.jpg

Fresh off booking a spot in the Champions League final for the second time in three years, Inter now need to shift gears back to Serie A, where things haven’t been going quite as smoothly, having lost two of their last three league games.

Last season’s defending champions are currently three points behind Napoli, and a trip to Torino could be just what the doctor ordered. Sure, Torino are one of just four Serie A teams still unbeaten in 2025, but that stat won’t rattle Inter.

They’ve absolutely dominated this matchup, winning 10 of their last 11 league games against Torino (1 draw), with a 24-7 goal aggregate across those wins.

The Nerazzuri have also won the last five meetings in a row, keeping clean sheets in four of them. And with Yann Sommer putting on a majestic performance against Barcelona on Tuesday, I wouldn’t bet against him locking down another shutout here.

Betting Tips:

Napoli vs. Genoa

Napoli host 13th-placed Genoa at the Diego Maradona Stadium knowing a win keeps them firmly on track for a second Serie A crown in three seasons. After an ugly run against Genoa between 2007 and 2009 (five straight losses), Napoli have completely flipped the script, losing just twice in their last 28 league meetings while picking up 21 wins.

Antonio Conte’s men are in great form right now, riding a 4-game winning streak without conceding a single goal.

This title charge has been powered by their rock-solid defense — just 25 goals conceded in 35 games, the fewest across Europe’s top five leagues. They haven’t been as explosive going forward though, with 55 goals (18 less than Inter and 16 behind Atalanta), but their back line has more than made up for it.

Genoa, meanwhile, have lost three straight and I’m backing that streak to stretch to four.
