Athletic Bilbao vs. Arsenal

Arsenal begin their Champions League campaign in Bilbao looking to build on back-to-back deep runs in Europe under Mikel Arteta. After ending a seven-year absence in 2023, the Gunners reached the quarter-finals in 2024 and the semi-finals last season, where they pushed eventual winners PSG closer than anyone else.

Now boosted by a £250m summer outlay and nine points from four Premier League games, Arsenal are genuine contenders. A win here would also see them become the first club to beat Spanish opposition six times in a row in the European Cup/Champions League.

Athletic Bilbao, meanwhile, are back in the group stage for only the third time since 1992. Ernesto Valverde’s men finished fourth in La Liga last season with 70 points, but their continental pedigree is thin - they have never made it past the groups and were outclassed 7-1 on aggregate by Manchester United in last year’s Europa League semis. A shock 1-0 defeat to Alavés dented their bright start to this season (three wins) at the weekend, and star winger Nico Williams misses out.

With Odegaard, Saliba and Saka set to miss the game, Arsenal may rotate, but their depth and firepower should see them through. To be safe, however, let’s use our HTUP feature.

Betting Tips:

Juventus vs. Dortmund

Juventus welcome Borussia Dortmund to Turin on Tuesday night as both sides open their Champions League campaigns in strong domestic form.

The Old Lady head into this clash after a dramatic 4-3 win over Inter Milan, maintaining their 100% Serie A record under Igor Tudor. However, their European record at the Allianz has been shaky – losing two of their last four UCL home games. Historically, though

Mbappe.jpg,

Juventus boast the edge in this fixture, with six wins from nine meetings against BVB, including a 3-0 victory in their last clash.

Dortmund are also unbeaten in 2025/26, following a 2-0 win over Heidenheim that kept them second in the Bundesliga. Niko Kovac’s men have registered three clean sheets in four games – as many as in their previous 19 – with in-form striker Serhou Guirassy already netting five goals this term. Yet the Black and Yellows remain short-handed defensively, with Süle, Schlotterbeck, and Emre Can among the absentees.

With Juve’s firepower of David and Vlahović against BVB’s Guirassy-led attack, our online betting community can expect goals.

Betting Tips:

Real Madrid vs. Marseille

Real Madrid start their quest for a record 16th UCL crown when they host Marseille at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday night. Xabi Alonso’s side are flying, winning all four of their La Liga matches so far, including Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Real Sociedad despite playing over an hour with 10 men. Kylian Mbappé has already hit four league goals, while Arda Güler has chipped in with key contributions. Los Blancos also boast a perfect record against Marseille, winning all four previous meetings.

Marseille, back in the competition for the first time since 2022-23, arrive with mixed Ligue 1 form under Roberto De Zerbi. They’ve won both home games, including a 4-0 rout of Lorient, but lost both away trips to Rennes and Lyon. Les Phocéens have never beaten Madrid, and French teams are winless in 15 away trips to the Bernabéu (D4 L11).

Now, I may not be a fan of the character of a few Marseille players, but there’s no denying their exceptional quality. I foresee them finding the back of the net in this game, though my full-time prediction is for Real Madrid to win, and we have the best odds for that.

Betting Tips:

Tottenham vs. Villarreal

Tottenham Hotspur return to the Champions League on Tuesday night, hosting Villarreal in their first group-stage clash since 2022/23. Spurs booked their place by winning last season’s Europa League and have carried that momentum into the Premier League, winning three of their opening four matches under new boss Thomas Frank, including a 3-0 victory over West Ham at the weekend. Spurs are unbeaten in their last 20 UEFA home matches, scoring in 15 of those, but have won just two of their seven opening Champions League fixtures.

Villarreal, semi-finalists in 2021/22, are back in the competition after finishing fifth in La Liga last term. They started well this season with two wins, but head into this game winless in their last two games after drawing with Celta Vigo and losing 2-0 at Atletico Madrid. The Yellow Submarine’s European pedigree is clear, but they have never beaten an English side in the Champions League (D6 L8), with over half their defeats in the competition coming against Premier League opponents.

Betting Tips:

Ajax vs. Inter

Ajax and Inter Milan renew a classic European rivalry when they clash in Amsterdam on Wednesday to open their Champions League campaigns. Ajax are unbeaten this season under new coach John Heitinga, winning all three of their home games including a 3-1 victory over PEC Zwolle last weekend. Wout Weghorst has three goals in five Eredivisie matches, while Kenneth Taylor continues to impress from midfield. Ajax have, however, progressed past the group stage just once since 2019 and have lost three of their last four UCL meetings with Inter.

Inter suffered a brutal defeat in the Champions League final last season, and I bet they want to get off to a great start this campaign. The worry is, they come into this game on the back of poor Serie A results, including Saturday’s 4-3 loss in a thrilling Derby d’Italia against Juventus. Cristian Chivu’s reign started brightly with a 5-0 win over Torino, but the pressure is mounting after defensive lapses. Lautaro Martinez, who scored nine Champions League goals last season, leads the line alongside Marcus Thuram.

Head-to-head history is mixed: Ajax won the 1972 final, but Inter have since had the upper hand. They’re unbeaten in 13 of their last 14 Champions League group fixtures, with eight clean sheets in their last nine. Ajax’s attack looks lively, but Inter’s pedigree suggests a score draw is likely. With this in mind, I’m predicting my first ever draw using the HTUP feature.

Betting Tips:

Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea

Cole Palmer, wearing a Blue Chelsea jersey and making a "heart" shape with his hands/fingers

Bayern Munich launch their push for a seventh European crown with a blockbuster opener against FIFA Club World Cup champions Chelsea at the Allianz Arena. Vincent Kompany’s men are flying: five wins from five across all competitions, including a 5-0 Bundesliga demolition of Hamburg at the weekend, and already the German Super Cup in the bag. Harry Kane remains the headline act, netting twice on Saturday to move to eight goals this season.

The England captain has 19 goals in 25 Champions League outings for Bayern, while new signing Luis Díaz has registered a goal involvement in four of his first five games.

Chelsea, back in the Champions League after a two-year absence, arrive unbeaten in the Premier League but frustrated by a late 2-2 draw with Brentford last time out. João Pedro has been the Blues’ creative spark with two goals and three assists, while Cole Palmer is expected to start after marking his return from injury with a goal.

History leans Bayern’s way: they are unbeaten in 34 straight UCL group games at home, winning their opening fixture in each of the last 22 campaigns. They’ve also beaten Chelsea in three straight meetings since the Londoners’ famous 2012 final win.

Betting Tips:

Liverpool vs. Atletico Madrid

One of the tastiest Champions League fixtures of the week see Liverpool take on Atletico Madrid at Anfield. Arne Slot’s side have started the Premier League season perfectly with four wins from four, all sealed by late goals, including Mohamed Salah’s 95th-minute penalty at Burnley. The Reds have now won 14 straight European home games, scoring 2+ goals in the last 13, making Anfield a fortress once again.

Atletico arrive with mixed form. Diego Simeone’s men opened La Liga with a loss and two draws before finally beating Villarreal 2-0 at the weekend, with Pablo Barrios and Nico Gonzalez on target. Historically, Atletico boast defensive steel, keeping clean sheets in 42% of their Champions League games under Simeone, but consistency remains a concern this season.

Head-to-head is tight: 10 meetings have produced 4 Atletico wins, 3 for Liverpool, and 3 draws. However, Liverpool have won the last two Champions League clashes between these sides (2021 group stage). Atletico rarely falter on opening night, losing just two of their last 15 UCL matchday one fixtures. However, this is Anfield and I’m not so sure they’ll get a win.

Betting Tips:

PSG vs. Atalanta

PSG kicks off their Champions League title defense with a tricky home clash against Atalanta. It will be the second meeting between these two sides, with the first coming back in 2020 when the French champions edged a 2-1 win in a one-off quarter-final. PSG kept their momentum going at the weekend too, beating Lens 2-0 thanks to a Bradley Barcola double, which stretched their winning run to five games and gave them a third clean sheet in four Ligue 1 outings.

History is also on their side. Only once in the last 30 seasons has a defending champion lost their opening group game (19 wins, 10 draws), and PSG have lost just one of their last 11 against Italian opposition. Add in Luis Enrique’s record of 64.5% wins in this competition - the best for any manager with 50-plus games - and the expectation in Paris is another victory.

Atalanta, meanwhile, head into this under new boss Ivan Juric, who will make his first appearance in the Champions League dugout. After starting his Serie A campaign with back-to-back draws, he finally grabbed his first win in style, a 4-1 thumping of Lecce. They won’t make it easy, but with PSG’s form and firepower, it’s hard to see past the holders picking up the win.

Betting Tips:

Manchester City vs. Napoli
27.jpg

It’s going to be an emotional night at the Etihad with Kevin De Bruyne making his first return since leaving the club. The Belgian is seen by many as City’s greatest ever player, having lifted 19 trophies including six Premier League titles and the famous Champions League crown in 2023.

He has settled quickly at Napoli too, scoring twice in his first three Serie A games and giving Antonio Conte’s side plenty of belief heading into this clash. Conte himself has a history with Guardiola, boasting a rare winning record against him. In seven head-to-heads, Pep has three wins while Conte has four, putting him in an exclusive group with Jurgen Klopp (11 wins, 10 losses) and Luis Enrique (3 wins, 2 losses) as managers who have beaten him more often than not.

City are coming off a big derby win over United, a result they badly needed after two straight defeats. Erling Haaland was the star, grabbing a brace in a comfortable 3-0 victory. With many expecting him to be among the UCL top scorers this season, our bet of the day is for him to get on the scoresheet and continue his brilliant scoring streak.

This game, though, should be tight. Napoli are well-drilled defensively and don’t give away many chances, so City’s attack might find it harder to break through. Adding a twist, two Napoli players, Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund, know City well from their time in Manchester. McTominay has fond memories, having scored that famous long-range strike against City right before football shut down during the pandemic. All the ingredients are there for a fascinating matchup.

Betting Tips:

Newcastle United vs. Barcelona

29.jpg

The reigning LaLiga winners couldn’t have asked for a better tune-up ahead of their Champions League campaign. After smashing Valencia 7-1 and 5-0 in their last two meetings, another win felt inevitable, and the Catalans delivered. A 6-0 scoreline summed it up perfectly, with Barca firing off 24 shots and holding 73% of the ball, while Los Che barely managed 2 shots and 27% possession. The game felt like a dentist visit for three Barcelona players with Fermin Lopez, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski all leaving with braces. Now they travel to England, a place where Barcelona usually enjoy themselves.

In their last 16 clashes with English clubs, Barca have won 12, drawn twice and lost just 2, though one of those was the painful 4-0 at Anfield. They’ve averaged over two goals per game in that stretch, and based on how ruthless they looked over the weekend, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they found the net a few times again. Newcastle should make things tougher than Valencia, though.

The Magpies have had an up-and-down start this season. With Isak’s departure, everyone expected goals to be scarce, and that’s been the case with only 3 scored so far, better than just three other teams. As a result, they’ve leaned heavily on their back line, picking up three clean sheets in 4 games and allowing the lowest xG in the league. Still, as Liverpool showed recently, a side with real firepower can break them down. Even without Lamine Yamal, sidelined with discomfort in his pubic area, Barca’s depth in attack should be enough to get something from St. James’ Park.
