Virgil Van Dijk for the Netherlands and Alexander Isak for Sweden ahead of their Group F game

Matchday 1 of the 2026 World Cup delivered some surprise results and performances across various groups as the action kicked off in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. Some of those results almost guarantee qualification to the round of 32 for certain teams, as three points will likely be enough for most third-placed teams to get through. Still, there is a lot left to play for in the next round of games, especially for teams that failed to win. Matchday 2 promises fireworks, and these matches will define group structure before the final round.

As usual, we have assembled bet predictions for all Matchday 2 matches, informed by actual tournament performances so far.

Mexico vs South Korea Betting Tips - Group A

Julian Quinones goal for Mexico - World Cup 2026

Mexico kicked off their campaign in front of their fans with a 2-0 victory over South Africa, a game that still showcased some of their weaknesses, despite the win. They largely failed to impress but were pleased to come away with the victory still. Against South Korea, they will be properly tested, with captain César Montes serving a suspension after his late red card.

South Korea showed remarkable resilience, beating Czechia 2-1 from a goal down after dominating for long periods, but they now face one of the hosts. They looked much better than Mexico on Matchday 1, so their ability to win here could depend heavily on how they handle the pressure of facing the hosts. Captain, Heung-Min Son’s influence will be crucial here.

Expert Tip: South Korea to avoid defeat.

Canada vs Qatar Betting Tips - Group B

Canada drew 1-1 with Bosnia & Herzegovina in their opener after going behind to earn their first-ever World Cup point. Qatar also drew 1-1 with Switzerland after a late equalizer, scoring their first-ever World Cup goal and earning their first-ever point as well.

While Qatar looked vulnerable against the Swiss, riding their luck as they were carved open over and over, Canada looked more assured in their opener. An open game favours the Canadians, backed by a vociferous home support. The Qataris will need to rely on more than luck to get a result from this game.

Expert Tip: Boosted Odds - Canada to win.

Czechia vs South Africa Betting Tips - Group A

Czechia suffered a devastating collapse against South Korea, leading 1-0 before conceding two goals in the final 23 minutes before losing 2-1. The psychological toll of squandering a World Cup opener cannot be overstated, but redemption awaits against a South Africa side that looked less than impressive in their defeat to Mexico.

South Africa will miss Themba Zwane and Sphephelo Sithole, who were both sent off in that match. As a result of that and their general underperformance, Hugo Broos' side is expected to abandon the unfamiliar 5-3-2 formation. Czechia rely on set pieces and defensive solidity, while South Africa favour patient buildup and possession. This clash of styles means the game will come down to moments and which team can take them.

Expert Tip: Czechia to avoid defeat.

Switzerland vs Bosnia & Herzegovina Betting Tips - Group B

Switzerland registered a disappointing 1-1 with Qatar in their opener, in a game they dominated for large periods. They were profligate in front of goal and only scored via a Breel Embolo penalty. A repeat performance in front of goal could lead to defeat here, as Bosnia are more likely to punish them for it than Qatar was.

Bosnia showed a lot of heart in their draw against Canada, showing the strong defensive organization that has often made them difficult to break down. They also looked dangerous from set pieces while showing a strong ability to soak up pressure for long periods without wilting. That will be crucial against a Granit Xhaka-led Swiss side.

Switzerland's tournament experience may edge this encounter, but Bosnia's defensive solidity suggests another tight match is likely.

Expert Tip: Over 1.5 goals.

Brazil vs Haiti Betting Tips - Group C

Vinicius Jr. Goal versus Morocco - 2026 World Cup

Brazil looked vulnerable in their opening draw with Morocco. The five-time champions struggled, especially in the first half, proving pre-tournament doubters right. Now they face minnows, Haiti, in a golden chance to reset and make a real statement.

Haiti returned to the World Cup after 52 years and had a good first game back, narrowly losing  to Scotland in their opening game. They showed spirit and enough quality to suggest they belong here and their energy could trouble Brazil's aging midfield, which Morocco exploited with ease.

Expert Tip: Brazil to win in a high-scoring game. This is our Banker Bet.

Scotland vs Morocco Betting Tips - Group C

Scotland earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Haiti, with defensive discipline earning them a win in their first World Cup appearance since 1998. Even though they were pregame favourites, they faced more adversity than expected and had to hold on in the end as Haiti pushed them all the way.

Morocco, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Brazil, showing that they’re not just affidavit AFCON champs and that they possess the quality to trouble even the best opposition. They dominated most of the game, winning the midfield battle and forcing Brazil to hang on for dear life at different points of the game. They’re the stronger side on paper and will be desperate to get 3 points here and boost their chances of advancing to the next round.

Expert Tip: Morocco to win, despite the best efforts of Scott McTominay and co.

Germany vs Côte d'Ivoire Betting Tips - Group E

Kai Havertz's second goal for Germany against Curaçao ahead of Matchday 2 World Cup 2026

Germany announced themselves as World Cup favourites with a 7–1 demolition of Curaçao. That statement mattered given their group stage exits at the last two World Cups. But the real test comes against Côte d'Ivoire, a team far closer to their level than the CONCACAF debutants.

Côte d'Ivoire edged Ecuador with a late Amad Diallo goal, showcasing their range of attacking options, with the pick of the bunch being an irrepressible Yan Diomande. A result against Germany would virtually guarantee advancement, with Curaçao still to play.

This promises an open, attacking contest with real intensity. Germany will want to prove their opener wasn't a fluke, while Côte d'Ivoire have the quality to punish any complacency.

Expert Tip: Over 2.5 Goals.

Türkiye vs. Paraguay Betting Tips - Group D

Türkiye suffered a shocking 2-0 defeat to Australia, a result made further embarrassing because of cocky comments made by Hakan Çalhanoğlu before the game. Now, they are under pressure to bounce back quickly to boost their chances of advancing against a team also wounded by an embarrassing opening round defeat.

Paraguay were torn apart by co-hosts USA in a performance that drew the ire of their fans. They desperately need to bounce back here, especially because their goal difference has put them in trouble already. They will need to do more than win, they have to score a few too. As a result, this should be an open, end-to-end game.

Expert Tip: Both teams to score.

USA vs Australia Betting Tips - Group D

The USA delivered a dominant 4-1 demolition of Paraguay in front of home support on Match Day 1, establishing themselves as Group D's clear leader. Their attacking prowess proved devastating, yet their defensive organization also impressed. That performance has undoubtedly raised expectations, leading to a bit more pressure on them to maintain that standard.

Australia’s unfancied team, on their part, kicked off on the perfect note, shutting up naysayers with a brilliant 2-0 win over Türkiye. They showed that they possess tournament quality, but facing this USA team is a different challenge. The Americans' intensity and dominance in and out of possession means they are likely to lay siege to the Australian goal. Despite doubts over Christian Pulisic’s fitness, USA coach Mauricio Pochettino has given assurances that he will be ready. If he does play, they will have more impetus in attack.

Expert Tip: USA over 5.5 corners.

Ecuador vs Curaçao Betting Tips - Group E

Ecuador's 1–0 loss to Côte d'Ivoire exposed a familiar flaw: a rock-solid defense undone by an attack that cannot convert chances. They will now hope to bounce back quickly against a team that conceded seven in their opener.

Curaçao endured a baptism of fire on their tournament debut, looking likely to concede every time Germany advanced. The game against Ecuador should be an easier fixture on paper, but Curaçao will hope to avoid another thrashing. Expect them to set up in a  compact shape, knowing they have a better chance of a result here than in their first game.

Still, goals seem likely here. Ecuador must finally turn dominance into delivery or risk another frustrating afternoon.

Expert Tip: Ecuador to win.

Netherlands vs Sweden Betting Tips - Group F

Victor Gyokeres scoring his first World Cup goal for Sweden

The Netherlands entered as World Cup dark horses 2026, but their 2–2 draw with Japan left much to be desired. Koeman's decision to retreat while ahead backfired as Japan roared back to grab a late equalizer. Now, the Dutch need a win to boost their chances of advancing and winning the group to avoid a tough round of 32 fixture.

Sweden were ruthlessly efficient against a hapless Tunisia, putting five past them to start their World Cup campaign on a high. On their day, the front two of Isak and Gyökeres can hurt any defense. And even though both have been below their best at club level over the past year, they assisted each other and showed sharpness that should worry the Netherlands against Tunisia. Expect a tight contest decided by moments here..

Expert Tip: Over 2.5 goals to be scored here.

Tunisia vs Japan Betting Tips - Group F

Tunisia's 5–1 demolition by Sweden exposed fundamental defensive vulnerabilities and tactical confusion, positioning them as the worst of the Africa World Cup 2026 contingent. Their campaign looks effectively over after such a heavy defeat, as Sweden was considered their most winnable fixture. With manager Sabri Lamouchi fired immediately after the game, however, it is difficult to predict what to expect. New manager Hervé Renard is a big upgrade, but he has had almost no time to prepare the team. On the evidence of that performance and previous tournaments, they appear in serious trouble regardless of whatever magic Renard is capable of.

Japan secured a creditable 2–2 draw with the Netherlands, equalizing twice in a closely contested affair. Now, victory here would put them within sight of the next round. On paper, Japan are the stronger side and look likely to dominate the North Africans, who have continued to flop at World Cup tournaments.

Expert Tip: Skip a full-time prediction. Instead, take your win early. Japan to lead at halftime.
