Matchday 3 of the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers featured some interesting results, with countries like Ghana breathing life into their fading qualification hopes, and Egypt moving a step closer to the Mundial with a fine win over Burkina Faso.   

However, the Super Eagles of Nigeria made matters difficult for themselves like they always do, staggering to a 1-1 draw against South Africa at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

**Benin vs Nigeria**

West African rivals Benin and Nigeria face off in Monday’s World Cup qualifying match at Stade Felix-Houphouet-Boigny. The Cheetahs defeated Rwanda 1-0 last week, moving up to third with 4 points in Group C, one point clear of Monday’s opponents.   

That victory, combined with the Super Eagles’ disappointing 1-1 draw against South Africa, makes this one of the most competitive groups, with all the teams still in contention for qualification after three rounds.   

Benin head coach, Gernot Rohr, could inflict more misery on his former team and will hope his men can capitalize on the extra day’s rest they have on the Super Eagles.   

The Nigerians failed to impress against Bafana Bafana, leading to frustration among supporters. Finidi George’s men have now recorded 1-1 draws in qualifying against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, and failure to win again today would be disastrous for the new head coach.   

While the last game was a disappointing one, there were still some positives from Friday’s game: Fisayo Dele-Bashiru proved to be a constant threat down the left and even scored the crucial equalizer.    

Finidi’s men can put that result behind them by defeating Benin in Abidjan, potentially taking them to the top of the group if other results go their way. The latter is particularly worrying, as a nation as talented as Nigeria should not have to rely on other results for their progress.  However, that’s exactly where we are. 

The Super Eagles have not missed consecutive World Cups since their debut in 1994, but Finidi must start securing wins soon to avoid setting an unwanted record.  

**Verdict:**

The Super Eagles are running out of chances to make the 2026 World Cup. Firmly in win-or-bust mode now, our bet prediction  is that the acute need to win should focus the Super Eagles enough to claim their first win of the qualifying campaign. 

On paper, the full-time prediction should be a win for Nigeria, who have the superior squad, but recent performances have altered for this one. This is leaning towards a stalemate.  

● Bet on Nigeria to win  

**Uganda vs Algeria**

Uganda and Algeria face off at the Mandela National Stadium on Monday, with both teams seeking vital points in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. They each have six points from their first two games and are involved in a four-way tussle in Group G, alongside Guinea and Mozambique who also have 6 points each.   

Uganda battled hard against Botswana, earning a 1-0 victory thanks to Muhammad Shaban’s 74th-minute goal. Despite having the same points as the top two teams, Paul Put’s men sit in 3rd place, due to an inferior goal difference. The Cranes have lost just once in their last 5 games and after consecutive 1-0 wins in these qualifiers, they will look to maintain that momentum against Algeria.  

Speaking of the Algerians, their recent record of one win in six games means this is far from a simple test. Newly-appointed Vladimir Petkovic suffered a setback in his first game in charge, losing 2-1 to Guinea, their first defeat since AFCON 2023.   

They had 14 shots against Guinea, only managing to score via an own goal. However, they showed their offensive prowess by scoring six goals in two friendly games in March, suggesting the defeat might have been just an off day for their attack.   

A win in this game would likely make the Fennecs favourites to qualify from Group G. A defeat, however, could put Petkovic under immense pressure after just two games.  

**Verdict**:

Uganda are growing in confidence with each passing game, and despite being underdogs, our football prediction is for the hosts to snatch an upset on home soil  

● Bet on Uganda to defeat Algeria 

**Guinea Bissau vs Egypt**

Guinea-Bissau and Egypt, both undefeated in World Cup qualifying, face off on Monday in Group A. The hosts are in second spot with 5 points, four behind the Egyptians, who have a 100% record.  

Guinea-Bissau drew 0-0 with Ethiopia on last Thursday, a crucial point which helped them leapfrog Burkina Faso, who lost 2-1 to Egypt in Cairo.   

Despite their unbeaten record, Luis Boa Morte’s men are still not in pole position to qualify as one of the highest-ranked second-placed nations, due to Namibia, Comoros, Gabon, and Guinea having a better record after three matches.   

This situation is fluid and could change in the next round. In fact, Guinea-Bissau could challenge for first place by defeating the Pharaohs at home on Monday. They have shown their defensive prowess by keeping consecutive clean sheets against Djibouti and Ethiopia, bringing their clean sheet total to four in their last five World Cup qualifiers.   

However, finding the net consistently remains a challenge, one they must solve if they’re to make it to the 2026 World Cup.  

Hossam Hassan’s Egypt defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 over the weekend to solidify their position as Group A leaders.  Despite their rich history on the African continent, the seven-time African champions have only appeared in three World Cups, a disappointing statistic for a nation of their stature.   

They are determined to qualify for a fourth World Cup and seem poised to achieve this, with 3 wins out of 3 (10 goals scored, one conceded).   

The Pharaohs have suffered only one loss in their last 14 World Cup qualifying matches, a defeat to Senegal en route to the 2022 finals in Qatar, which ended an impressive five-year unbeaten streak.   

**Verdict:**

A victory in this match would push the Salah-led Pharaohs closer to securing a spot at the next World Cup, and if you want the best odds, you’ll back them to do just that.

**Ghana vs Central African Republic**

Ghana’s Black Stars will be aiming to make it consecutive wins when they host Central African Republic on Monday. Both teams enter this match with confidence flowing, after achieving morale-boosting victories over the weekend.   

In the wake of their failure to advance beyond the group stage at the last AFCON, Ghana re-appointed Otto Addo as head coach to replace Chris Hughton.  Addo took over a team with just three points from their opening two World Cup qualifiers and would have been relieved to see his men snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with a dramatic 2-1 victory against in-form Mali on Thursday.    

Jordan Ayew’s stoppage-time winner moved the Black Stars to six points from three matches, placing them third in the group, level with leaders Madagascar and second-placed Comoros.   

Central African Republic, led by manager Raoul Savoy, secured their first win in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a 1-0 victory over Chad, courtesy of Venuste Baboula’s first-half strike. Les Fauves have been on an impressive run, riding a four-game unbeaten (W3, D1), scoring 12 goals, and conceding just once.  

However, they face their toughest challenge yet on Monday, and after suffering a defeat on their last visit in September, they will be familiar with the magnitude of the task at hand.  

**Verdict:**

The way Ghana turned things around against Mali could serve as a turning point. They also have way more quality compared to the visitors and our bet of the day is for the Black Stars to make it two wins on the bounce.  

● Bet on a “home team to win & over 1.5 goals” combo      

**Congo vs Morocco**

Congo welcome Group E leaders Morocco to the Grand Stadium of Agadir for a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier. The original venue for the game was Kinshasa, but FIFA’s disapproval meant a new location had to be found at short notice.   

The Red Devils have not played a World Cup qualifier since their 4-2 defeat to Zambia in November, but they drew 1-1 with Gabon in a friendly in March. They enter this game at the bottom of the group with zero points, and only one victory in their last seven competitive matches, dating back to September 2022.   

Historically, they have struggled against Morocco, failing to win any of their three previous meetings (L2, D1), which suggests a similar outcome in this match.   

Morocco are atop Group E with six points after their 2-1 victory over Zambia on Friday, top Group E with six points, three clear of the next three teams in the group. After their remarkable performance at the 2022 World Cup, Walid Regragui’s men are clearly determined to qualify for the 2026 edition, and based on recent form, it’s difficult to make a bet prediction against them.  

● Bet on a “Morocco win & over 1.5 goals” combo  

**Angola vs Cameroon**

Angola welcome the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to the Estadio 11 de Novembro on Tuesday night for Group D’s standout clash. Both teams are in fine form after victories in their last qualifying matches and will be eager to keep the momentum going.   

Angola, like Libya and Cameroon, remain unbeaten after three matches (D2, W1). They earned their first win of the qualifying campaign with a 1-0 win over Eswatini on Friday, thanks to Mabululu’s second-minute strike.  This victory lifted the hosts to third place with five points, two behind Cameroon and Libya, who have seven points each.  

There is little to separate both teams in terms of the head-to-head record, with three wins each and two draws in eight encounters. However, Angola claimed a 1-0 victory on home soil in their last meeting in 2018.   

Meanwhile, Cameroon, under the guidance of new coach Marc Brys, defeated Cape Verde 4-1 at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Saturday, shrugging off the pre-match distraction of a disagreement between FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o and Brys. Vincent Aboubakar netted a brace for the Indomitable Lions, while Andre Onana produced a fine performance, saving a stoppage-time penalty to seal the convincing win.   

Cameroon are in excellent form and are strong contenders to qualify for a record ninth World Cup, a feat unrivalled by any other African nation.  

**Verdict:**
