The UEFA Champions League is back, with four massive games for you to bet on and as usual, there are several exciting narratives for each game. 

Will high-flying Arsenal heap more misery on Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern? Can Barcelona stop Kylian Mbappe? There’s also the small matter of Real Madrid welcoming Manchester City to the Bernabeu, which promises to be a cracker while Atletico Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund will have no shortage of excitement. 

As always, we have previewed the games, with a bet code at the end of this post for you to use and edit as you like.

**Arsenal vs Bayern Munich**

This is arguably the most intriguing clash of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, as high-flying Arsenal lock horns with a Bayern Munich side struggling with consistency, underwhelming. Harry Kane will return to North London for the first time since leaving Tottenham in the summer, and it promises to be a feisty affair.   

The Gunners are in excellent form, atop the Premier League table, and are unbeaten in seven competitive matches (W6, D1).  They rode their luck to reach this stage, defeating FC Porto on penalties in the second round, and unlike previous Arsenal teams, Mikel Arteta has built this team to be defensively solid.  

As they say, defence wins you titles, and the Gunners are yet to concede a single goal at home in the UCL this season (W4). The last time the Gunners failed to keep a UCL clean sheet was at the Emirates in 2017, when they were hammered 5-1 by this week’s opponents, Bayern Munich!  

In fact, the visitors have won by a 5-1 scoreline the last three times both teams have met in the UCL. However, Bayern’s recent terrible form, including a 3-2 loss to Heidenheim on Saturday, means that no bettor will be expecting a repeat scoreline on Tuesday.  Since that loss to Heidenheim means that Bayer Leverkusen is just one win away from winning the Bundesliga, the UCL is Bayern’s only hope of not going trophyless this season.  

Key Stat: Arsenal have lost their last 4 two-legged UEFA Champions League ties against German opposition.  

Verdict: The Gunners are simply in much better form, especially at home with 6 wins on the spin, and just 5 goals conceded in 2024. Bayern have been better in Europe this season but their defensive record on the road (15 goals conceded in 7 games) means they’re unlikely to stop Arsenal’s attack. They still have Harry Kane though, and his record of 14 goals in 19 games against Arsenal makes him a sound option to find the net again.  

Our bet of the day is for both teams to score, with the former Spurs man finding the net against one of his favorite opponents.

**Real Madrid vs Manchester City**

Real Madrid have been drawn against Manchester City for the third straight season in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages. Both ties were split, but with a positive home record from those ties (W1, D1), Real will hope they have what it takes to at least get off to a positive start in the first leg.  

Carlo Ancelotti’s men have won their last 11 UCL quarter-final ties, knocking out English opposition at this stage in the last three editions. Having had a weekend off, they are well-rested for this match.  

Unlike Madrid, City played over the weekend, coming back from a goal down to defeat Crystal Palace 4-2 to keep their title hopes alive. They’re also defending the Champions League trophy for the first time ever, but with a negative record away to Spanish opposition (W4, D3, L8), their crown comes under its biggest threat here. 

Despite their shaky record on Spanish soil, Pep’s Guardiola’s men are on a 22-match unbeaten European run and stopping them will be a huge task for anyone. Ironically, the last team to beat them in European action was Real Madrid themselves in the 2021/22 semi-finals, largely thanks to a collapse in the away leg. The Santiago Bernabeu remains a stadium City have struggled in, winning on just one of their five visits (D1, L3), and that trend is likely to continue here, especially with Kyle Walker expected to be out inured; a situation that could increase Vinicius Jr’s threat.  

Key Stat: Vinicius Junior has scored 6 goals in his last 5 games for Real Madrid  

Verdict: City are arguably the best team in Europe on current form, and their run of 26-games unbeaten is something that cannot be ignored. However, Real Madrid have been practically unbeatable at home this season, scoring 2 or more goals in 17 matches across all competitions.  

Our bet prediction is a score draw, as we see both teams canceling each other out in the first leg.

**PSG vs Barcelona**

This quarter-final showdown will see two of Europe’s biggest clubs face off for the chance to take a first-leg advantage as both eye a spot in the semi-finals. Luis Enrique’s team have not lost in 27 matches, a run dating back to early November, and with the Ligue 1 title looking like a sure thing, they can focus on winning the Champions League for the first time.  

Enrique was in charge of the Spanish giants when they completed their famous comeback in 2017, overturning a 4-goal deficit to PSG, but now, he’ll be looking to orchestrate a first semi-final appearance for the Parisians since 2020/21. Despite strolling towards another Ligue 1 title this campaign, PSG’s preparations for this first leg were marred by a 1-1 draw with Clermont at the weekend. That result made it more draws than wins over their past five outings at Parc des Princes as a result (W2, D3), while a return of just one clean sheet in that time highlights worrying defensive issues.  

That will certainly fill Barcelona with confidence as they make the trip to Paris. Xavi’s men are making their first Champions League quarter final appearance since 2020. On that occasion, they were spanked 8-2 by Bayern Munich - their heaviest defeat in this competition.   

After winning their last four competitive outings, conceding just once, the Blaugrana will feel confident of avoiding defeat at the Parc des Princes. However, even with a current five-match away unbeaten run in all competitions (W3, D2), the reigning Spanish champions will have to be at their very best to defeat Kylian Mbappe and company, as they have won just one of their six away H2Hs (D2, L3).  

Key Stat: Barcelona have won just one of their last 11 away Champions League matches in the knockout stages of the competition (D5, L5).  

Verdict: Barcelona’s away record in the knockout stage is not great, especially for a big team. While we expect Xavi’s men to be competitive, our full-time prediction for this tie is a narrow home win for PSG.   

Kylian Mbappe has scored 39 goals in 40 games this season and has netted 4 goals in two games against Barcelona. Enjoy the best odds by backing the France captain to score again and help the home side to a valuable advantage.

**Atletico Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund**

Atlético Madrid have not enjoyed a straightforward season by any account. They sit fourth in La Liga and remain embroiled in a battle to return to the UEFA Champions League next season, with just two points separating them from 5th placed Athletic Bilbao. However, while their recent domestic form has been patchy - just three wins from their last eight league games (D2, L3) - they’ve been much better in Europe, losing just one of their eight Champions League matches so far (W5, D2).    

For their next challenge, Diego Simeone’s men welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Wanda Metropolitano.  

These two sides last met in the group stage of the 2018/19 edition of the competition, with Atletico coming out on top at home, contributing to their impressive record of 12 unbeaten European home matches against German opposition (W8, D4). There’s also the added bonus of manager Diego Simeone never losing a home knockout match as Atletico boss (W10, D6), with his side keeping a remarkable 12 clean sheets in that period.  

Dortmund have also had an inconsistent domestic campaign and are currently outside the Champions League spots for next season. Things seem to have improved with a run of four straight league wins before falling to defeat at home to Stuttgart (1-0) this past weekend. A win here would certainly go some way to rectifying the disappointment of that loss, whilst also putting them a step closer to making the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2012/13.  

Getting a positive result at the Wanda will certainly be difficult, especially when you consider Dortmund’s wretched recent record on Spanish soil. The German side have managed just three wins across their past 18 visits to Spain (D5, L10), while five of their last eight matches there ended in defeat.  

Key Stat: None of Atletico’s last seven competitive home games were goalless at half-time.    

Verdict: Atletico have lost just one home game all season, and judging by the way they came back from an early deficit to knock Inter Milan out of the UCL, it’s hard to see Dortmund getting the win here.
