 The EURO 2024 semi-finals are set to kick off today with a spot in the final on the line for the four best teams in the competition. 

Tonight, Spain take on France with Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe set to go head to head and England face Netherlands in the semifinal.

**Spain vs France** 

Two European heavyweights with contrasting styles meet in Munich with one target in mind; a place in the EURO 2024 final.   

Luis de la Fuente’s Spain remain the only team with a perfect record at Euro 2024, winning all five matches, scoring 11 goals, and conceding just 2. Their 2-1 quarterfinal win over Germany puts them on the cusp of history; no team in EUROs history has won six matches in a single tournament, and none has done it consecutively.   

Spain have been impressive with beyond this tournament: 15 wins in 19 matches since the start of 2023 translates to a remarkable 79%-win rate - the highest among all European nations during this period. With talented youngsters like Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams leading the charge, Didier Deschamps’ France can expect their toughest test yet.  

Les Bleus are no strangers to tough tests, as they showed by holding their nerve to send Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal packing.   They will be aiming to reach their fourth EUROs final, but in contrast to their opponents, they have been far from impressive at EURO 2024. 

Pre-tournament, our online betting experts backed Kylian Mbappe to win the Golden Boot, and [we even predicted](https://m.betking.com/blog/betting-tips/football-prediction-top-candidates-for-the-euro-2024-golden-ball/) that he would be named player of the tournament. However, the France captain has been disappointing, with just one goal (a penalty) in his 4 appearances. Truthfully, the entire France team have been uninspiring, save for a superb cameo by Ousmane Dembele against Portugal.   

Deschamps’ men are now the only team in EUROs history to reach the semi-finals without scoring from open play. Les Bleus, however, have the best defence in the competition, conceding just once in five games. This defensive success can be credited in large part to goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who has a competition-leading 94% save percentage in this competition. 

**Verdict: France could play as they have all tournament - defend for their lives and hope for penalties since they seem to have forgotten how to score. However, keeping a clean sheet against this Spain team is unlikely. La Roja have won 5 of the last 7 meetings between the two teams and are also an overall better team. Yamal has the most assists in the competition (3) and leads the pile for chances created (14). Our bet of the day is for the star boy to work his magic in a narrow Spain victory.**

**Netherlands vs England**  

The Netherlands have turned their Euro 2024 campaign around, going from a lackluster group stage to a place in the semi-finals for the first time since 2004. After finishing as one of the best third-placed teams, the Oranje defeated Romania 3-0 and came from behind to win 2-1 against Turkey in the quarter-final. Next up for Ronald Koeman’s men? A tasty clash against pre-tournament online betting favorites England.  

The Oranje have mixed history against England. Since losing 4-1 to the Three Lions in their group stage meeting at EURO 1996, they’ve had the upper hand (W4, D4, L1).  They will be hoping to continue that trend and reach their first Euros final since their 1988 triumph - which, coincidentally, was also held on German soil and saw them defeat England 3-1.  

Gareth Southgate’s journey in Germany has been a bumpy one, to put it mildly. After scraping through the group stage with two draws and a narrow win against Serbia, England needed a last-gasp Jude Bellingham overhead kick to avoid elimination against Slovakia. 

They followed that up with a thrilling quarter-final win over Switzerland via penalties, making it consecutive games that lasted 120 minutes. On the bright side, that was a better performance than anything they had shown previously, and when Bukayo Saka is in the mood, there’s no stopping him.   

There have been signs of progress and the level of talent is still the highest at the tournament, but England fans will not fancy another tense 120 minutes against a formidable opponent. For all the flak Southgate receives, he has led England to three semi-finals in four attempts, which means he must be doing something right.

He has certainly made them harder to beat, with their last defeat in a competitive game coming at the last World Cup against France (W9, D4).  

**Verdict: England have more talent and experience than the Netherlands, which should give them an edge. While their defensive work has been impressive, they have struggled to finish off opponents, appearing vulnerable to counter-attacks when they finally take risks. Although the Dutch have been shaky and ponderous in defence, players like Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay have the potential to trouble any defense on their day. Making a bet prediction for this one is tricky but all things considered, our full-time prediction is that England will find a way to win in the end.**
