Since the tournament started on Friday, EURO 2024 has already served up some thrilling games over the last few days and the excitement is set to continue after the first round of fixtures.  

As usual, we’ve whipped up expert betting tips for matchday 2 games.

**Croatia vs Albania**

After a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Spain in their opening group game, Croatia must bounce back against Albania to keep their qualification hopes alive. The defeat to La Furia Roja was the first in seven games, and the first time they had conceded more than 2 goals in a competitive game since November 2022.   

They also have an encouraging historical trend in their favor, having avoided consecutive defeats in the same major tournament since Euro 1996. Going by that, a return to form should be on the cards here.  

Their opponents, Albania also experienced a disappointing start to their EURO2024 campaign, losing 2-1 to Italy after scoring the fastest-ever goal in tournament history (23 seconds). That defeat ended their seven-game unbeaten run in competitive fixtures (W4, D3).  

While they showed resilience in qualifying, beating higher-ranked nations twice (Poland and Czech) along the way, they’ve not defeated a top-ten team since their victory against France in June 2015.  

Both teams will be eager to secure their first win in Group B and prevent an early plane ride back home, making this clash even more intriguing.  

**Verdict: Croatia will be eager to bounce back in this one, and backing Luka Modric and co to prevail in a tight affair is a sensible bet prediction.**

**Germany vs Hungary**

The EURO 2024 hosts, Germany, will face Hungary on Wednesday, knowing that a win will guarantee passage into the round of 16 and that even a point might suffice after thrashing Scotland 5-1 at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena.   

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann is likely to persist with the dynamic front three of Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, and Kai Havertz, who all found the net against Scotland. Their intelligent movement is a scary prospect for any defense.   

Hungary will certainly be worried, and if they repeat their tepid performance in the 3-1 defeat to Switzerland, this could get ugly. They allowed 15 shots in that game and will need to tighten up to have a chance of claiming even a point. While their recent record - two defeats in 16 games (W7, D7) - suggests they shouldn’t be written off entirely, this is a tall order for Marco Rossi’s men.

**Scotland vs Switzerland**

Scotland’s EURO 2024 campaign got off to a dismal start with a 5-1 loss to Germany, but Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney remains optimistic about their chances of reaching the knockout stages for the first time in history. The 27-year-old said in the post-game interview: “It’s still all to play for in these next two games and we need the belief that we can go on and do it.”  

However, nothing less than a positive result against Switzerland will keep those hopes alive. Steve Clarke’s men have struggled lately, with just one win in their last ten matches (D3, L6), and a tendency to concede late goals - seven in their last six matches after the 70th minute. This fragility could prove costly against Switzerland, who have already shown their ability to score late with Breel Embolo’s stoppage-time winner against Hungary.   

The Swiss are riding high after their 3-1 win and will be confident of at least matching their quarterfinal finish in 2020. With just one defeat in their last 15 outings (W7, D7), they know that another positive result will all but secure their spot in the knockout stages.   

**Verdict: Scotland will be eager to redeem themselves after their opening day defeat to Germany, and we expect them to adopt a more compact approach, leading to a low-scoring encounter. If we had to pick a winner, our money would be on Switzerland.**

**Slovenia vs Serbia**

Serbia will be keen to bounce back from their 1-0 loss to England when they face Slovenia in their second group game at the Allianz Arena. The Eagles delivered a strong performance in that opener, particularly in the second half, pushing England back and causing some nervy moments for Jordan Pickford.  

Dusan Tadic made a strong case for his inclusion in the starting lineup after making an impressive cameo off the bench, and an attack featuring Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic should fill the Serbian fans with confidence.  

Meanwhile, Slovenia came from behind to force a draw with Denmark in their opener. Benjamin Sesko, the highly rated Leipzig striker, failed to mark his EURO debut with a goal despite recently signing a new contract, but his partnership with Andraz Sporar of Panathinaikos showed promising signs for the future.   

With only one loss in their last 12 games (W6, D5), Slovenia are resilient and difficult to break down, even against stronger opponents and will be confident in their ability to avoid defeat in this match.  

**Verdict: So, what betting tips do we have for this game? We expect a low-scoring affair. Serbia have better players, but Slovenia are tough to beat, which means this could become too tight, veering close to boring. Our prediction is a slim win for Serbia to give them a great chance of qualifying from a tough group.**

**Denmark vs England**

England’s EURO 2024 campaign continues against Denmark in their second group-stage match, following an unconvincing 1-0 win over Serbia in their opener.   

Despite being tournament favorites, Gareth Southgate’s men must improve on that performance to contend with other favorites like France, Spain, and Portugal. Real Madrid star and Ballon d’Or favourite Jude Bellingham scored the decisive goal against Serbia, capitalizing on a deflected cross from Bukayo Saka. However, England’s other attackers Phil Foden and Harry Kane were subdued, with Foden in particular, criticized heavily on social media for his performance.  

Denmark were unlucky to draw 1-1 with Slovenia after dominating the game with 68% possession and 16 shots to Slovenia’s 11. With the Manchester United duo of Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund providing the attacking threat, England’s defense will face a distinctly different challenge compared to the one posed by Serbia.   

The two teams have recent history, having clashed in the Euro 2020 semi-finals, which the Three Lions won in extra time at Wembley courtesy of a Harry Kane penalty. However, Denmark pulled off one of the biggest upsets in European football history by winning the tournament in 1992. Can it happen again? 

**Verdict: England have not scored freely in recent matches (7 goals in 6 games) and their performance against Serbia means that is unlikely to change here. Our bet prediction for this game is a low scoring affair, with Kane scoring his first EuroKup goal.**

**Spain vs Italy**

One of the most anticipated clashes of the group stages pits Spain against defending champions Italy at the Veltins Arena with victory for either side likely to guarantee passage into the last 16.  

There is no love lost between these two great footballing nations. The last time they met at the EUROs, Italy prevailed on penalties in a tense semi-final. Perhaps, sweet revenge for the 4-0 defeat Spain inflicted on the Azzurri in the EURO 2012 final.   

Luis de la Fuente’s men prepared for this one by dominated Croatia in their opener, scoring three first-half goals to claim a convincing 3-0 win.  

Italy, on the other hand, faced a tougher test against Albania, conceding after just 23 seconds before mounting a comeback to claim all three points in a match that, on paper, appeared to be their easiest of the group.  Although the Azzurri struggled to craft clear-cut opportunities against Albania’s defensive approach, they can expect a more open game against Spain, who are unlikely to use a defensive approach. 

**Verdict: Spain were very impressive against Croatia, showcasing a ruthless attacking edge that had been lacking in recent tournaments. Alvaro Morata scored, like we predicted in our Euro 2024 bet builder article, and Lamine Yamal, the youngest-ever player to feature at the EUROs, was exceptional, notching an assist.**

**Italy will be no pushovers, but our full-time prediction remains a narrow win for Spain, with Morata likely to find the net again.**

**Netherlands vs France**

The Netherlands have not won the EUROs since 1988 and will be keen to break that 36-year drought in Germany this summer. They began their campaign with a 2-1 win over Poland, with former Manchester United man Wout Weghorst scoring a late winner.   

Ronald Koeman’s men are in fine form, with a record of one defeat in their last eight games (W7), making them a team to watch out for at EURO 2024. Despite missing key players like Frenkie De Jong and Teun Koopmeiners, Oranje looked solid against Poland and will not cower against the might of Kylian Mbappe and France.  

France are heavy favourites to win, and rightfully so, considering the depth of talent at Didier Deschamps’s disposal. After a disappointing Euro 2020 campaign where Switzerland eliminated them in the last 16 and a World Cup final loss to Argentina in Qatar in 2022, Deschamps will be looking for his French side to bounce back in Germany. Their record against the Netherlands will be a huge boost ahead of this one. Les Bleus have lost just once in the last 7 meetings between the two sides (W6), with Mbappe running riot in that famous 4-0 win back in 2023. 

**Verdict: The Netherlands have improved under Koeman but remain unpredictable. The big question is can they stop Mbappe? Recent encounters suggest otherwise. We’re backing Les Bleus to win again here.**

**Turkey vs Portugal**

Vincenzo Montella’s Turkey take on Portugal in a mouthwatering Group F clash.  Despite coasting through UEFA EURO 2024 qualification (W5, D2, L1), Turkey traveled to Germany riding a 5-game winless streak (D2, L3), and will need to improve drastically to progress.  

They’re tagged ‘dark horses’ every EUROs but have failed to consistently deliver in recent years. In fact, they crashed out of the group stage in the last two EUROs, losing all three group games in the last edition.  

This is a dynamic group though, with star midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu pulling the strings alongside Real Madrid’s emerging talent Arda Guler. It would be foolish to write them off, even against Portugal.  

Speaking of Portugal, the 2016 champions will fancy their chances in Germany this summer, boasting a squad packed with attacking quality and defensive solidity. On paper, Roberto Martinez’s men have one of the easiest groups at EURO 2024 and coming off the back of their opener against the Czech Republic, they will look to wrap up qualification quickly.  

Few sides can match the quality in this Portugal squad. A potential front three of Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Leao, and Bernardo Silva, being supplied by Manchester United’s creative machine Bruno Fernandes, is terrifying for any defence, and they will be a solid bet to go all the way.  

**Verdict: Turkey are good enough to give it a go, but this is a Portugal team balanced on both ends of the pitch. Our full time prediction is a Portugal win here.**
