Veteran center-back, Raphaël Varane, and new signing, Sofyan Amrabat, made substitute appearances after being sidelined in the past few matches while Mason Mount returned to full training on Monday, further boosting the team’s options. 

The last time the home side was at Old Trafford, Man Utd were convincingly beaten by Brighton. However, prior to that loss, they had maintained an impressive record of 30 consecutive unbeaten matches at home. With their next four games scheduled to be played at home, the Red Devils will be eager to reestablish a strong run of form on their own turf, which could inject new life into their season. 

Crystal Palace is coming off a goalless draw with Fulham in a London Derby. The team has been performing decently this season and currently sits 10th, just one spot behind Manchester United in the standings. Heading to Old Trafford, they won’t be intimidated, as they have put in commendable performances in recent years. Although they have suffered narrow one-goal defeats in their last two visits to Old Trafford, they had won the two meetings at this venue before that.  

Keep an eye on two standout players, Eberechi Eze and Odsonne Édouard. Eze has been directly involved in 51% (42 out of 82) of his team’s shots in the League this season, the highest share among any player in the current campaign. Meanwhile, Édouard is having one of the best scoring spells of his career, with 5 goals in 7 games across all competitions, including one in the previous stage of this EFL Cup against Plymouth. Adding to the intrigue is the expected debut of Dean Henderson, a former Manchester United employee looking to prove a point to his former club. All these factors combined could make things challenging for the Red Devils in the upcoming match.

**Napoli vs Udinese** 

While it might not be time to hit the panic button just yet, Napoli’s failure to secure a win in their third consecutive Serie A game is certainly raising some eyebrows. The reigning Italian champions have struggled in recent weeks, and their position on the standings has slipped to 7th following a goalless draw against Bologna. 

What’s particularly concerning for Napoli is the performance of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. He began the season in blazing form, scoring 3 goals in his first two league games, but he has now gone four games without finding the net for his team. On Sunday, Osimhen had a great opportunity to score from the penalty spot but once again missed from 12 yards out. 

The upcoming league match against Udinese presents a perfect opportunity for Victor Osimhen to help Napoli return to their winning ways. Udinese are currently 18th in the Serie A and are yet to win a league game this season. They have struggled against Napoli for quite some time now, as they haven’t secured a victory in their last 15 encounters across all competitions since their 3-1 win over them in April 2016. During this period, Udinese has suffered 13 losses against Napoli. 

Notably, Victor Osimhen has been in fine form against Udinese, having scored in each of his last four league meetings with them, totalling 5 goals across the last two seasons. It’s safe to say that he will be eager to find the back of the net when they face off on Wednesday and what’s more, he’s likely to do just that.

**Brentford vs Arsenal**

Brentford is currently looking to bounce back after an unexpected 3-1 home loss to Everton. However, recent history suggests that betting on them in the EFL Cup may not be the wisest choice. In the 3rd Round of last season’s EFL Cup tournament, they had to rely on penalties to edge past League Two side Gillingham before eventually being eliminated by West Ham in the next round. This season, their somewhat indifferent approach to the tournament has continued as they once again required penalties to progress, this time against Newport County, another League Two team. Now, they are facing Arsenal, and it’s quite plausible that a defeat could be in the cards for them.  

Arsenal shared the spoils with Spurs in Sunday’s North London Derby. Despite having the lead on two occasions, the Gunners allowed their bitter rivals to equalize both times. However, the more concerning aspect for Mikel Arteta was the injuries suffered by Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, both of whom had to be substituted. Additionally, with Thomas Partey also dealing with an injury, it’s expected that Mikel Arteta will take a cautious approach and rest some of his key players. Still, we expect the Gunners to have more than enough quality to see off a Brentford side that, quite frankly, doesn’t care about this tournament.

**Chelsea vs Brighton** 

The saying “when it rains, it pours” certainly applies to Mauricio Pochettino, who finds himself metaphorically standing on slippery ground at Stamford Bridge, equipped with a patchy raincoat as he navigates the challenging situation at Chelsea. The extensive squad overhaul that has taken place in the last 16 months was bound to bring about its fair share of uncertainties, particularly as the new players work on building team chemistry and adapting to their roles. Furthermore, the Blues have had to contend with injuries to key players, with notable absences including new signing Christopher Nkunku and recently appointed captain, Reece James. 

The 1-0 loss to Aston Villa on Sunday marked the club’s second consecutive home defeat and extended their streak to three league games without a goal. Chelsea has scored just 5 league goals this season, with 3 of those goals coming against Luton Town, a team considered the weakest in the league. With a match against the Seagulls scheduled for this Wednesday, the prospect of a third consecutive loss at Stamford Bridge is certainly within the realm of possibility. 

Brighton rebounded from a Thursday night Europa League defeat with another impressive 3-1 victory, this time against Bournemouth. This marked manager De Zerbi’s third consecutive 3-1 win, propelling the Seagulls to a remarkable 3rd place in the Premier League. 

One noteworthy aspect of Brighton’s season is the high-scoring nature of their games. In all 7 of their matches this season, there have been at least 4 goals scored, and both teams have found the back of the net in each of these games. At some point, they will keep a clean sheet, perhaps it could come against Chelsea, a team currently struggling to score. However, one can reliably expect goals whenever Brighton takes the field, and that’s where our bet prediction will lean towards.

**Liverpool vs Leicester City** 

Leicester City has notched two impressive 2-0 away victories in this competition, first against Burton in the first round and then against Tranmere in the second round. Their upcoming match is arguably their toughest yet: a visit to Anfield, a stadium where they haven’t tasted victory since May 2000. Liverpool has understandably been dominant in this fixture in recent years, winning the last three meetings. However, it’s worth mentioning that prior to this recent stretch, Leicester City had emerged victorious in two out of three encounters. 
 
Interestingly, the last EFL Cup clash between these sides delivered a thrilling 6-goal spectacle at Anfield, with a 3-3 scoreline after 90 minutes. Liverpool needed penalties to advance to the next round, a match in which Leicester City held a two-goal lead at various points. 

The Foxes are enjoying life in the Championship, where they rank first on the standings. With 14 goals in 8 games, they are showing an ability to score freely and are considered a favorite for promotion at the end of the season. While Anfield is traditionally a fortress, we expect Jürgen Klopp to rotate his side, which could level the playing field to some extent. The expectation is that Liverpool will ultimately progress to the next round, but it’s highly likely that there will be goals in this exciting matchup.

**Newcastle vs Manchester City** 

Newcastle United is entering this match on the back of a historic 8-0 victory, which featured goals from 8 different scorers—a Premier League record. Now, they will host Manchester City, a team that beat them just over a month ago. 

This upcoming fixture could be one of the most challenging to predict in this round. Pep Guardiola’s approach of heavy rotation in domestic cup competitions means that his side may not always field their best players, especially in the early stages of this tournament. This introduces an element of uncertainty regarding their lineup, potentially opening the door for an upset similar to the one they experienced against Southampton in last year’s EFL Cup quarter-final. 

One notable absence for Manchester City is Rodri, the Spanish midfielder who is serving the first of his 3-game suspension following a red card for violent conduct during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Rodri has been a key figure for Manchester City since his arrival at the club, and his absence will undoubtedly affect their midfield dynamics. 

Given these circumstances, the match may indeed be a cagey affair, reminiscent of their earlier meeting that ended 1-0. Despite their recent 8-0 win, we expect Newcastle to adopt a defensive approach and look to exploit Manchester City on the counter-attack or through set-pieces.
