Second Half of The Season Prediction - Which Players Will Retain Their Awards?

by Chike Nwoye

3 Feb 2025

To close out last year’s Jingle Bets, we had our own version of an awards night—lighthearted, of course. Now that we’ve crossed the halfway mark of this season, it’s time to revisit those awards and see who’s leading the race for each one.

Human Cheat Code - Raphinha

Barcelona’s season might have its highs and lows, but their attack has mostly been on fire. They’ve scored Over 4.5 goals in 14 games this season… yes, 14! And the crazy part? We’re only halfway through the season.

Wagering on them to score in a game has delivered sure odds for our online betting community and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. Everyone in that front line has contributed to making the Catalans Europe’s deadliest attack, but no one’s been as clutch as Raphinha. He’s been smashing expectations with 23 goals and 13 assists in 32 games, averaging 1.13 goal contributions per 90 minutes. His 8 in the Champions League fixtures makes him one of the UCL top scorers for the season and a fan favourite to be an anytime scorer in the competition.

La Casa De d’Or - Mo Salah

I honestly thought Mo Salah’s chances at the Ballon d’Or were done, but here we are in January 2025, and the 32-year-old is the clear front-runner.

Despite Liverpool dragging their feet on giving him a new contract, the Egyptian football icon has been playing like a man possessed. With 23 goals and 17 assists in 32 games, Salah’s brilliance has kept the Reds from losing more than twice in those matches.

Liverpool sits top of the Premier League, breezed through the UCL group stage, and is still alive in both domestic cups. If Salah can secure the EPL title—which seems very possible—and lead Liverpool to glory in the Champions League final, the Ballon d’Or is his. And somewhere, Florentino Perez might just shed a tear… again.

Documentary Material - Nottingham Forest

The ‘70s and ‘80s were the glory days for Forest fans. With the iconic Brian Clough at the helm, trophies came rolling in including one league title, four league cups, and back-to-back European Cups. Since then, it’s mostly been heartbreak, with two relegations in the ‘90s and two decades stuck in the Championship.

But this season feels different. They’re sitting 3rd in the Premier League, and if they can keep this momentum going, European nights might just be back at the City Ground. This season’s story feels like it’s begging for an All or Nothing documentary.

Money Na Water - Erling Haaland

In January, Man City announced they’d locked down Erling Haaland on a 10-year deal, and bruh, what my eyes saw still has me shook. The 24-year-old has scored 111 goals in 126 games since joining City in June 2022 from Borussia Dortmund so, locking him down makes sense.

Word is, the contract is worth a Premier League record of around £500,000 a week, with no release clause. That’s £26 million a year for the next decade.

Wait, let me double-check my calculator real quick because I’m not about to mess this up — ₦4,947,441,088 a year. Let’s just round it up to ₦5 billion a year. Phew! That’s ₦50 billion over the next 10 years. If I hear say my pikin no play ball for this life ehn…

Why Always Me? - Arsenal Fans

This one has to go to Arsenal fans, who somehow believe the PGMOL has a personal vendetta against their team. Obviously, that’s not true—controversial calls happen to everyone.

Every fanbase could probably whip up a highlight reel of poor decisions against them. But I’ll admit, Arsenal fans might have a point this season.

They’ve been on the wrong end of some rough calls, from Declan Rice’s red card against Brighton to Trossard’s dismissal versus Man City, and even Myles Lewis-Skelly’s overturned red. The Gunners always seem to find themselves in the headlines for referee drama.

Remote Worker - Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw’s time at Man Utd has been one long battle with injuries, but his latest setback is on him. He rushed back too soon at the end of last season just to make England’s Euro 2024 squad, only to aggravate the injury.

Now, he’s managed just three appearances all season, racking up just 98 minutes. Honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if the next five months are his last at the club, especially with INEOS slashing costs left and right.

Talk And Do - Noni Madueke (vs. Wolves)

Back in August, Chelsea visited the Molineux to face Wolves, and let’s just say Noni Madueke wasn’t exactly their biggest fan. A few hours before kickoff, he posted—and quickly deleted—a message saying, “this place is s***.” Predictably, the Wolves fans let him have it with boos when he stepped on the pitch.

But how did Madueke respond? Oh, just by dropping a hat-trick in Chelsea’s 6-2 win. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound. Wolves fans had to sit in silence as the Chelsea winger handed them a double dose of humiliation.

Fast forward to January at Stamford Bridge, and Madueke was back on the scoresheet in a 3-1 win over Wolves. With 8 goals in all competitions this season, 4 of them have come against Wolves. Safe to say, they won’t be making donations to his foundation.

Best Glow Up - Amad Diallo

Under Erik ten Hag, Amad Diallo was practically glued to Man Utd’s bench, only getting a sniff of action when ten Hag felt generous.

But since Ruben Amorim took charge, the Ivorian has morphed into one of England’s most electric attackers—and an absolute FPL must-have. With 9 goals and 7 assists by mid-season, plus his versatility to shine as a wing-back, right winger, or #10, he’s become the undisputed Man Utd player of the season.

Small But Mighty - Daniel Daga

Last year, this award went to Lamine Yamal, but this time, let’s keep it at home. Daniel Daga looks like Nigeria’s next big star.

The former Enyimba midfielder just made the switch to Norway’s Molde after shining at the 2023 Under-20 World Cup and impressing in both the NPFL and CAF Confederation Cup with Enyimba.

The 18-year-old isn’t shy about his talent either, boldly claiming he “plays like Bissouma, tackles like Kante.” And honestly, if he can live up to that, I’m feeling pretty good about Nigeria’s chances at AFCON for the next decade.

Ojoro Cancel Ojoro - Inter 4 - 4 Juventus

What do you get when two defensive teams face off? Definitely not an 8-goal thriller… or so I thought. Honestly, my betting tip for this one was Under 2.5 goals, so you can imagine my jaw hitting the floor when the first half alone delivered 5 goals.

If you haven’t seen it yet, forget the highlights—watch the full game if you can. This wasn’t just a Serie A match; it was an instant classic and arguably the most thrilling game the league has served up in the last decade.
