Who Will Victor Osimhen Be Playing For Next Season?

by Chike Nwoye

19 May 2025

The upcoming summer transfer window is shaping up to be a crazy one for strikers, with plenty of clubs on the hunt for a reliable goal machine. Some exciting names are already in the mix with Viktor Gyökeres, the Sporting CP forward who has 52 goals and 13 assists in 50 games, being the biggest name on the market.

Jonathan David, the 25-year-old Canadian who has scored 25+ goals in each of his last three seasons at Lille has announced he will leave on a free, and I expect him to get lots of phone calls.

Ipswich’s 22-year-old Liam Delap is also on many teams’ radar after bagging 13 league goals, and now looks set to move following their relegation. Then there’s Benjamin Šeško, the 21-year-old Slovenian prodigy who’s already scored 106 career goals.

That said, there’s one name we really care about around here; Victor Osimhen. With the AFCON just a few months away and Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification still hanging in the balance, Osimhen’s next home is a big deal for Nigerians.

Road to the Turkish League

When news broke in the summer of 2024 that he’d fallen out with Napoli, fans were understandably nervous. Dealing with Napoli’s owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis - known for being one of the toughest negotiators in football - was never going to be easy. He slapped a huge price tag on Osimhen, and any club that didn’t meet it got a flat-out ‘no.’

Chelsea actually matched the price, but Osimhen’s high wage demands ended up being the deal-breaker. At that point, it looked like Nigeria’s golden boy and reigning CAF African Player of the Year at the time would spend the next six months rotting with the reserves.

But just before the window shut, Galatasaray came in with a lifeline. Many people felt the Turkish Super Lig was below his level, but it gave him a fresh start, and he grabbed it with both hands.

In 39 games for Gala, he’s scored 36 goals and provided 8 assists, powering them to the Turkish Cup and Super Lig double. On an individual level, he leads the golden boot race in the Turkish Super Lig and was the joint-top scorer in the Turkish Cup.

For the Nigeria national football team, he’s scored 5 goals in 6 games this season, taking his international tally to 26 goals in 40 appearances, just 11 behind the legendary Rashidi Yekini. Safe to say, the drama from last summer didn’t slow him down one bit.

Now, with another transfer window right around the corner, Osimhen’s name is back in the headlines. So… where might he end up? Let’s take a look.

How Well Would He Fit in At Old Trafford?

PALMER SHOT copy 2.jpg

Manchester United are 16th place on the EPL table, having only managed 42 goals in 36 league games, despite having one of the most creative players of this generation in Bruno Fernandes. Their two main strikers, Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have a measly 7 league goals between them. So yeah, it’s pretty clear they’ll be shopping for a new frontman.

That said, getting Osimhen could be tricky to pull off. With INEOS now calling the shots at Old Trafford, “cost-cutting” seems to be their motto. In the past year, only the club’s number of games lost can rival the number of staff layoffs, which makes Osimhen’s reported wage demands (€11m a year after tax) plus his €65m release clause a tough ask.

For the folks in our online betting community, the smart money might be on United going for someone like Liam Delap who is less accomplished, but way more affordable. That said, never say never. They could still make a surprise move for Osimhen if things shift.

Could a Move to the Emirates to play for Mikel Arteta Be On the Cards?

Arsenal, too, is a team that everyone agrees signing a striker could be the missing piece in their quest for silverware. Over the last three seasons, the absence of a quality forward has held them back in the business end of the season.

At different times in the past 24 months, they’ve fielded Mikel Merino, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus in that position. Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz are attacking midfielders, while Jesus is either in the treatment room or posing little to no fear to opposition goalies on the pitch. His link up plays are incredible, sha. I’ll give him that.

The dream target for many Arsenal fans is Alexander Isak, but with Newcastle’s owners practically printing money and, more importantly, securing European football for next season, there’s little chance they’d sell him to a direct rival.

That’s where Victor Osimhen comes in. He could be the striker who takes Arsenal to the next level, both in the Premier League title race and in Europe, where they came painfully close to reaching their first Champions League final in nearly two decades. If only the Gunners can stop spending large chunks of their transfer budget on defenders and midfielders, this seems like a brilliant investment.

Will Chelsea Be in the Mix as Well?

At Stamford Bridge, Christopher Nkunku hasn’t quite lived up to the hype, and while Nicolas Jackson’s 24 goals and 10 assists in 65 league games isn’t terrible-terrible, it’s clear Chelsea need an upgrade if they’re serious about pushing for the Premier League and Champions League.

Victor Osimhen, who grew up idolizing Didier Drogba, has never been shy about his love for Chelsea. As mentioned earlier, the club actually tried to sign him last summer, but talks broke down over his high wage demands. And honestly, it’s hard to see Chelsea budging on that soon.

Todd Boehly has been on a mission to bring down the club’s wage bill over the past few seasons, and it doesn’t look like he’ll make an exception, even for someone like the Super Eagles forward. That said, if both sides somehow found middle ground, there’s no question that Stamford Bridge would be Osimhen’s dream move and you can get 9 times your betting stake if that’s your choice.

Will He Mimic Higuain and Make the Napoli-Juventus Switch?

Outside of England, Juventus have emerged as serious contenders for Osimhen’s signature. You know, it’s wild to think they haven’t won the Serie A in five years, especially after doing so for nine straight seasons before that. Their biggest issue this year has been putting the ball in the back of the net, and it’s something they clearly need to fix.

In the Champions League group stage, they managed just 9 goals in 8 games, the second-worst tally among the 24 teams that reached the playoffs/knockout rounds. In Serie A, they’re averaging just 1.47 goals per game and have failed to score in 22% of their matches. It’s safe to say the Dušan Vlahović experiment hasn’t really worked, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re open to offers for him.

While Juve don’t splash the cash every summer, history shows they’ll go big when they believe in a target; €90m for Higuain, €75m on Matthijs de Ligt, and who can forget the €117m Cristiano Ronaldo signing in 2018? They’re not scared to spend if the fit is right and with their recent title drought, I’m calling it now; my bet of the day is that they’ll meet Osimhen’s release clause and wage demands. I see him rocking the black and white stripes in a few months and we have the best odds for that.

Is a Galatasaray Extension on the Cards?

There’s an old saying; “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Right now, Galatasaray feels like home for Osimhen. He’s picked up two titles, his value has gone up, the fans absolutely adore him, and the love clearly goes both ways. So really, why not stay one more year?

Let’s be honest though, Galatasaray can’t afford to trigger that €65m release clause, so a full transfer is off the table. For a bit of perspective, their most expensive signing ever is Gabriel Sara, who came in from Norwich last summer for €18m. Before that, it was Jardel (not to be confused with the musician who sang “heritage”), who they got for €17m way back in 2000. Yes, it took them 24 years to break their own transfer record, and even then, it was by €1m. So yeah, there’s no chance they’re spending €65m.

But what if they could strike a deal to keep Osimhen on loan and just cover his full wages for another season? Same thing they’re currently doing. It’s not the craziest idea.

Any Saudi Pro League Team

Victor Osimhen has already turned down moves to the Saudi Pro League in the past, most notably a big-money offer from Al-Ahli last summer. We all know the Saudi clubs can easily match even the wildest release clauses or wage demands.

The real question is: does Osimhen actually want to make that kind of move this early in his career?

Given how much talk there’s been about his “€11m a year after tax” wage expectations, it feels like there are really only two places that can comfortably meet that; Juventus and the Saudi Pro League.
