Milan were dire in the first leg, which ended 1-0. It was a second consecutive defeat in the competition for them, but their league form gives them some hope of turning the tie around. So far, they have won three straight league games, with star man Rafael Leão back in form with goals in the last two games.
After suffering three straight defeats, Feyenoord seem to be back in form now, winning two and drawing one of their last three games without conceding a goal. One of those victories came against Milan in the first leg, and they will be looking to replicate that performance in Italy and stun the Rossoneri just like they shocked Bayern Munich in January.
Full time Prediction: I expect goals in this one. At home, Milan will need to come out guns blazing to overturn their first-leg deficit. This will leave gaps in behind for the away team to exploit.
Atalanta have not had a good 2025, in sharp contrast to their impeccable early season form that saw them win 9 straight games. The injury to CAF African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, has been particularly significant. They have won just 1 of their last 6 games, and their painful defeat in the first leg of this tie has put them at risk of premature elimination.
Before losing to Manchester City in the final game of the League Phase, Club Brugge had not lost a game in three months. They have shown that they can be dangerous this season, and that was on full display as they won the first leg despite the odds stacked against them. This is a daunting trip for them, but they are a fearless side and could cause Atalanta serious problems once again.
Full time Prediction: Atalanta should win this, despite their poor form. Go for goals to be safe.
Bayern were on a 5-game winning streak before their bore draw at the weekend against title rivals Bayer Leverkusen. That performance will have more than a few Bayern Munich fans worried as the Bavarians could only muster an xG of 0.05. They also lost the xG battle in the first leg of this tie, although they ultimately came away with a win.
For the first time in a long time, Celtic have been competitive in the UEFA Champions League. They are still alive and could make the Round of 16 for the first time since 2012/2013 if they can turn this tie around. Admittedly, the task is tough, but this season, Bayern do not look as imposing as past seasons, and Brando Rodgers will favour his side, especially if Harry Kane is unable to play, as rumoured.
Full time Prediction: It is hard to see past a Bayern win.
Benfica are up against an opponent they have not lost to in their last 4 games. They have already defeated Monaco twice this season, both in France, no doubt helped by their opponents picking up red cards on both occasions. Now, in front of their fans and brimming with confidence, they are favourites to advance to the round of 16 against a tricky side.
Monaco’s exciting season has turned sour over the past few months. Interestingly, their defeat in November against Benfica was the catalyst. The away side’s frustration with the referee’s decision to send off Mutassim Al Musrati the last time out was obvious, and they will be hoping to avoid a third consecutive red card against these opponents.
Away sides will hope that their 7-1 win over 10-man Nantes at the weekend has taught their team how to win again.
Full time Prediction: With neither side willing to back down and concede defeat, expect goals and corners galore in this one.
Dortmund’s league form may be the worst it has been in a long time, but they have managed to be excellent in this competition, just like last season. They have shown that reaching the Champions League final last year was no fluke, and they once again proved it with a 3-0 demolition of Sporting in Portugal last week. The tie looks done, but Dortmund’s league form means one can’t be fully confident in them closing this out.
Sporting have looked lost since Ruben Amorim left for Manchester United. They have not won any of their 5 CL games since he left and are on their third coach of the season now. Coach Rui Borges had no answer for Dortmund last week, and it looks unlikely that he will this time around. They have now gone three games without a win.
Full time Prediction: Expect Dortmund to win, with a bunch of goals scored. CL Top Scorer, Serhou Guirassy, will likely score too.
These two teams have seen their seasons take completely different turns this year. PSV looked on course for another league title, but they have now dropped points in three straight league games, allowing Ajax to leapfrog them. Last week in Turin, they produced a forgettable performance that, if repeated, could see their season go belly up early.
Juventus, on their part, have finally stopped drawing games. They have been buoyed by the arrivals of Kolo Muani and Renato Veiga in January, both of whom have made instant impacts with the team. With four straight wins in the bag, including the Derby d’Italia triumph during the weekend, they will be confident of reaching the round of 16 as long as they play to recent standards.
Full time Prediction: Juventus should avoid defeat here. Go for a straight win if you are feeling brave.
PSG have been impeccable against French opposition this season across four competitions. They have not lost a single game and have drawn only 6 times. Last week, they all but ended this tie as a contest with an emphatic 3-0 away win. Back home for the second leg, they will be looking to extend their 18-game unbeaten run and 6-game winning streak.
Brest’s fairytale run in the Champions League seems all but over now. They have the daunting task of trying to overturn a 3-0 deficit away from home against a marauding PSG side that they’ve already lost to three times this season.
Full time Prediction: Expect end-to-end football, corners, and goals galore. At least 3 goals have been scored in the last 7 games between these two teams, and if Brest goes all out to force the issue, Ousmane Dembele and co. will be more than happy to punish them.
Real Madrid have not won any league games this month, but they have claimed two 3-2 victories away from home in the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League. That win at The Etihad, after a late Jude Bellingham goal from a Vini Jr. assist, put them in a strong position heading into the Santiago Bernabeu second leg. This is never a straightforward tie, and yet more drama could ensue, especially considering Real Madrid’s form. Luckily for the home team, Kylian Mbappe is now bang in form.
Manchester City are coming off an impressive 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle at the weekend. It is the first time they have looked impressive in months, and Pep Guardiola will be hoping to build upon that performance. They seemed on course for a win last week before conceding two late goals to put Madrid firmly in the driving seat. A trip to the Santiago Bernabeu is never easy, especially in the UCL, but they’ll be buoyed by their latest result. Their frontline is clicking with Haaland and Marmoush and if Phil Foden is in the mood, this could go down as a UCL classic.
Full time Prediction: This is another game that looks like a free-scoring classic on paper. Both teams will go at it and I expect both teams to score.
Aston Villa’s January transfer window activity looked the most impressive of any side in Europe’s top five leagues, but last weekend’s draw against 10-man Ipswich dampened expectations slightly. The big positive was Marcus Rashford’s excellent cameo, which could lead to him starting his first game for them against a familiar foe. Against Liverpool, he will be extra motivated considering their rivalry with his parent club.
Recently, Liverpool have not looked as imperious as they looked earlier in the season. Their poor second half performance at Anfield against relegation-battling Wolves last weekend summed things up. They mustered an embarrassing 0.00 xG with no shots while conceding 10, and were fortunate to win the game. They will need to improve on that performance to get through this game against a tough Villa side unscathed.
Full time Prediction: As long as Mo Salah is fit and firing, anything can happen. However, that backline has looked shaky recently and the “both teams to score” market looks particularly tasty.
